Tips and advise on beginning to sew?
I will be learning how to sew this summer and was wondering what's a good project to start with. I plan to sew some of my own clothes and don't want an ugly pattern thing to do. Also I've hand sew small pillows before but they're not very good. So now I'll be using a machine.
If you have any advise on what to start with or know of an online pattern thats good and easy that would be helpful. Or any sites to see about easy sewing for beginners. Also any tips you can tell me. Or what types of things I'll need to make whatever it is.
Any advise you have will be very much appreciated.
sewing is a great hobby...awesome for a DIY girl, such as yourself & me. i started with pillows & tote-like purses, they're quite simple but you can hand stitch on cute patches or other fabrics to make a funky, vintage look that's so trendy right now. & the best thing about doing your own stuff is that no one else has anything like it.
the best thing to do first is learn about your sewing machine & what it can do. you'll be able to come up with your own projects as you go. start off with a tote bag. it's just like a pillow but with no stuffing, of course, and one side open with a simple handle.

i always found it fun to go to walmart & browse through their cuts that are on sale in pre-measured pieces. you can pick up a bunch of random fabrics, sew them in a random pattern & do pretty much anything with them.
