Before sending out the wedding invitations, or even choosing the perfect wedding ceremony location, you will find yourself flipping through bridal magazines, and window shopping for that perfect wedding dress. Whether your wedding is a traditional or a more modest gathering, your wedding dress should be able to reflect who you are. It is a good idea to do a lot of research to be prepared when it's finally time to choose that gown. Here are a few tips to have a stress-free shopping trip for that wedding gown.

• It will be very difficult to make the final decision on your own so take a family member or friend with you when you go shopping. You will need them to impart an honest opinion on the dresses you are trying on.

• Before you start shopping, it is important you have already figured out your budget. If it's a little tight, one way you can save is to pick out a pattern from a top designer and hire a dressmaker. Pick out less expensive but quality fabrics.

• Start early by shopping seven to nine months before the wedding. Some manufacturers take at least five months to make a gown and another two for the alterations.

• Come up with a schedule of store visits. Call up boutiques ahead of time to find out the price ranges of their gowns and ask for an appointment. In this way, you can work out a plan where to go to first and not be rushed. Try at least 5-7 gowns in each bridal boutique. Have a notebook with you and write down descriptions of the dresses so you can remember what the dresses look like.

• Be open-minded. A gown always looks different on a model or on a hanger. You may not like a style of a particular gown, but you will be amazed that it will completely transform you once you have it on.

• You should make the most of each fitting. In adjusting the gown to your size, it will usually take two or three fittings. Try sitting, hugging and dancing in your wedding dress. Try waving you arms to make sure the sleeves are not binding.

• Examine the dress meticulously to make sure the quality is worth the price tag. Do not be afraid to ask what materials the gown is made of. A great tip to know if the dress is made well is to look inside. You should examine the seams and stitches and determine if the sewing looks solid and professional.

• The best advice probably is to be realistic and confident. It is important you accept who you are. Learn to highlight your assets and be confident about it. Choose a gown that best compliments your body shape. Whether you are pear-shaped or petite, wearing the right cut for your body type will accentuate your best features.
