Sewing machine will sew lightweight cotton but not fleece?
I'm a sewing novice and currently working on a project which is entirely fleece. I recently replaced the needle because it broke. When I attempt to sew the fleece project the stitches do not stay; they skip stitches or the needle pokes holes but doesn't sew. I'm convinced it's the top stitch's problem and not the bobbin's.
A friend suggested it was a tension problem, and I adjusted the tension for the top stitch up and down without any luck... it didn't seem to do anything for the problem. The original tension was set on 4.
Just now I tested a piece of lightweight cotton fabric and it worked (the top tension was set on 3)! No stitching problems what so ever. It was perfect.
I have a Brother CS6000i.

Needle in wrong or too small a size. Try a 14/90 universal point needle, and make sure the flat back of the needle is to the back of the machine.
Heavier fabrics need thicker needles than thinner fabrics.
