Sewing pants and the lining for pants seems too big for the outer pant at waist!!!?
Hi--I made my own pattern for suspender overalls for my toddler son. Here's the problem----I'm making them fully lined using the same pattern pieces as the outside pant. I sew the outer pants then sew the lining as though I'm making two separate pairs of pants. Then I fit them together. However in fitting them together and trying to sew them at the waist, I'm finding that I'm having about 1 inch extra fabric in the lining that doesn't match up with the outer fabric. For my son's pants, my only option has been to create a tuck in the lining fabric at the waistline....but I don't like that, in addition to being fully lined, I even invisioned the pant being reversible, the unsightly little tuck prevents that. I want both the full lining and the outer pant to perfectly match up----is it my pattern? Do I need to decrease the size of the lining somewhat by increasing the lining seam allowance?
Yes, you do need to decrease the size of the lining a little bit -- things are smaller on the inside of a curve than the outside. You can get that inch out of the current lining, though, by sewing 1/8" deeper seams at front, back and sides.
