Join A Fashion School

There is so much competition in the field of fashion that you should not venture into this field without proper education and training. You should complete a four year degree in fashion designing from a reputed institute. The reputation of the institute matters as the graduates from leading fashion institutes are always in a high demand. At fashion school, you will learn designing, cutting, sewing, draping, and so forth. You will also learn about the different kinds of software that are used by the fashion designers. Besides preparing the students to design beautiful creations, these schools also teach subjects like accounting, management, and public relations.

Go Under Internship

It is important to have hands on work experience to know about the challenges of this business. You should do internship under a good designer. Apart from helping you to learn several things about designing, the internship will also help you to network with people in this industry, which is very important to become successful.

The future of fashion....?

I am in highschool and my dream is to be one of the people in the magazines that decides what should be in... and get to go to fashion week and watch the different new fashions that I think would work and put it in a spread. Alot of girls want to design, but there are too many... and I think it is stupid when girls who don't know how to sew act so passionate about designing. Because fashion designs don't stay paper long. I have learned how to sew, but feel so helpless that other people with money can get farther. I just do not think I want to spend my life designing and sewing . So what kind of schooling majors and accomplishments should I have to be able to get high in the fashion world. to work for a major magazine?

I go to the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC for Advertising and Marketing Communications. They have tons of majors that deal with fashion. You can look at the Academic Links to see what they offer. Don't let money stop u. U can always get financial aid or loans if u really need it. U should also look up other "Fashion" colleges in your area or somewhere else to see what they offer. My friend goes to Parsons School of Design. She majors in Fashion Marketing. (We're both freshmen) Hope this helps.
