Can anyone figure out this impossible statistics problem?
In the manufacturing process there is a term called work-in-process (WIP). In a book manufacturer WIP represents the time it takes for sheets from a press to be folded, gathered, sewn, tipped on end sheets and bound. The data in wip.xls represents samples of 20 books from two plants processing time. Benchmark the performance of plant 1 vs. plant 2 with plant 1 being the benchmark (first) plant and plant 2 being the plant compared for performance against plant 1 as follows using wip.xls.
1.Calculate the standard deviation and mean for each group using the functions available in excel
2.In PHStat run a pooled variance t-test against the 2 plants
assuming a hypothesized difference of 2 at the .05 confidence level.
3. Interpret the results
1) I don't think it's impossible.
2) We don't have the file wip.xls, so we can't do it.
