upper vs. lower bobbin?
i just got my first sewing machine..a brother ls-2125.
it was a gift from a friend who had had it for a year or so and never used it and now im beginning to teach myself how to use it to alter clothing and such.. nothing too fancy.
ive spent a while looking at the manual, learning the parts of the machine and how to thread it, change the needles, etc. however i cannot figure out a lot about the bobbins.
whats the difference between upper/lower bobbins? do i need to use both? if not, which should i use for what? i get the jist of how to thread it.. just need to know what to do with it and which to use?
any help would be greatly appreciated as im extremely new to this! thank you.
As far as I know there is only one bobbin and that is under the foot, probably a top load for your machine. the "upper" is for winding the same color thread you are using on your project onto the actual bobbin, so that you have matching thread on top and underneath whatever you are sewing. Look at your machine parts drawing again and the numbers for identifying each part. It should have "Bobbin winder" on the section that is anwhere above the needle and "bobbin holder" for where the bobbin that actually holds the thread fits in under the needle.
