Can I do a stockinette stitch on a circular knitting needle?
Hello,
A real rookie question, but I'm a real rookie knitter, so I'll ask anyway! I'm planning on making stocking caps for my kidlets, and was thinking of using a circular needle so I don't need to worry about the seam (also, I've never done it that way). I'm planning on using a stitch with a stockinette stitch. My question is, if I'm doing rounds on the circular needle, then it seems as if I'll never be knitting from the wrong side of the piece. If that is the case, will alternating rows k, p, etc. give me that nice stockinette pattern that I'm hoping for? If not, I can do the caps on straight needles and sew it together, I was just wondering if the circular will work.

for stockinette stitch on circular needles knitting round, you have to knit every round. knitting 1 row and purling one row in round will give you a garter stitch . so if you want stockinette stitch you will be knitting all rows.
flat knitting:
* garter: knit every row
* stockinette: knit 1 row, purl 1 row
* reverse stockinette: purl 1 row, knit 1 row
in the round knitting:
* garter: knit 1 round, purl 1 round
* stockinette: knit every round
* reverse stockinette: purl every round
