Does anyone have any information about a 20 year old Brother B220 sewing machine?
I just broke a new singer inspiration. I am sewing multiple layers of heavy fabrics (cotton duck, Cordura, etc.). After more research, I've read that older machines offer more power for the money, are more reliable, and easier to maintain. I like the idea of a machine I can possibly fix myself.
I found a Brother b220 in a shop that I'm told is 20 years old and was made in Korea. I can't find any information about this machine. I'm also looking at a Daewoo (Mipar) DLS 557 industrial machine and a Janome that was made in Japan in the 60's-70's.
Does anyone have any info or can point to place where I can do more research? I'm also into hearing some suggestions for other machines. Unfortunately, old machines made in the US or Europe are too expensive here. I live in Korea (hence the Asian made machines).
Sorry, but I don't know the machine. However, I have a Singer 111W155 - it is a compound walking foot, industrial machine capable of sewing up to 3/8 inch thick leather. I have worked on a Juki compound walker in a leather shop. Mine is at least 20 - 30 years old & the Juki must be 30. They are metal and with proper oiling and care will run indefinitely.
Basically, you will love working with an industrial compound walking foot machine regardless of make. Presser foot clearance is important, you want at least 1/2 inch.
