What model of sewing machine would you recommend for a complete novice?
The kind of projects I'd like to attempt are simple clothes for my kids and tote bags and to be able to repair/ hem clothing. I've never used a sewing machine in my life. My only experience with needle and thread is cross-stitch and replacing buttons. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Check with any business that does sewing machine repairs and services - many times they will have great deals on trade-in machines or basic models that people have left for up grades. I really like Singer because it's well known and most repair shops will service them. I have my mom's and it's 40 yrs. old - goes to the Bernina shop yearly for servicing and fine tuning.
