taking body measurements sewing
How do you figure out how much fabric you'll need for...?

First, I don't have a pattern for this, so I don't even have a generic estimate of how much to buy. If your only advice is "go get a pattern," then I'm not interested in your answer. The internet has plenty of other resources that I don't need to buy a pattern.

I'm trying to make a bodysuit/catsuit/unitard/whatever you call it, since the ones you find online are way too expensive. I'd be making it out of four-way nylon spandex, so I know it will stretch, but I don't want to buy too much or too little. Obviously, with it being close-fitting, I'd be taking lots of measurements are various points on my body. Is there any way to make an estimate of fabric needs based on those measurements?

Sorry for posting in multiple places, but there's no "Sewing" questions section.

I ALSO WISH THERE WAS A SEWING SECTION. YAHOO ARE YOU LISTENING!!!!

However, this is where most questions about sewing live.

You personal body measurements will be of help as will your your height and arm length.

With a wide fabric, I fold the selvages in to the middle of the fabric so I have two folded edges to work with. This works really well for the back and front top.

I am 5' 4" would buy 2 1/4 yds just in case the fabric has a flaw.

Did you see this site ?

The author is 5' 10'' and uses 2 1/2 yds of Lycra.
