I want to make a skirt, any tips for a beginner in sewing?
My two little girls want to go as "Sock Hop" girls, complete with poodle skirts for Halloween.
I've decided to go ahead and make the skirts myself, since costumes are getting quite pricey. I do have some experience in sewing, mostly small things such as pillows, mending tears and rips, etc. I do own a sewing machine and I bought the fabric and elastic waistbands.
I've never made my own pattern or clothes before though. So I'm completely clueless about what my next step should be. I've looked online and the instructions that they give only confuse me more!
Do any experienced sewers or seamstresses have some good tips on how to make a pattern? Or any good tips that may help me out in general?
