Can you help me understand this sewing instruction?

I am attempting to make a fitted crib bed sheet. I need to cut out the pattern but I cant understand the instructions. It reads as follows: to cut sheet fold fabric lengthwise having selvages even. then fold crosswise matching cut edges. cut pattern as shown. I cant add the picture, but there is a rectangular box shown with what looks to be four layers of material and labeled on top of picture says selvages, labeled on the right side of pic says crosswise fold and at the bottom of pic it is labeled fold. I need help understanding this. thank you. no rude comments please.

Hi. Instructions can be so confusing. The selvages are the edges that are woven tightly and look different than the body of the fabric. The cut edges are where the fabric has been cut from the bolt.

Fold the fabric so that the finished edges (selvage) are together. Then fold again so that all the cut edges line up. You are right this will be four layers of fabric.

I imagine the next step is trimming one corner of this stack to make the fitted corners.
