First time on a sewing machine and frustrated! :(?
I am trying to patch a pair of jeans.
I wasn't sure how to thread my machine, so I looked it up. After reading several articles, tutorials, and even watching a few videos I set it up the way they taught me and tried to practice on some scrap fabric, and what occurred just made me absolutely furious: on the top, the stitching looks fine, but when I try and pull the fabric out all of the thread on the bottom is tangled in long strings and kind of stuck in the machine. What's more, when I try and untangle this awful mess I CAN, and the stitches pull out and act like they were never even sewn in.
I am so close to just hand-sewing this crap it's not even funny. And it's not a small project.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, inb4 "just read your manual" or "take a class". If there really isn't anything anyone on the internet can do to help me without actually looking at the machine just say so so I can move on and prepare for hours of hand-sewing.

On top of what the first user said, I also do recommend getting the manual for your machine and looking at the instructions in it as it'll definitely be a big help to you. Get your model number from the back or bottom of the machine and then visit either of these sites to get a free owners manual:
