what type of sewing machine do I need?
Right now I am doing a halloween costume and it is a mixture of felt and burlap. But also later on I want to be able to make PVC/Leather costumes. Any suggestions
The Singer and Brother brands sold at discount stores will work just fine.
They have a pressure adjustment for the presser foot, which you need for the variety of fabrics you will be using.
You should also get a roller foot or Teflon foot for the leather and vinyl. The clip-on generic brands sold at fabric stores will fit either machine.
I have two top of the line ($$$) machines and a model 1507 Singer from a discount store and the Singer sews just as well as the expensive machines for way, way less money.
With any new-to-you sewing machine, open the instruction manual and try every feature to acquaint yourself with the features and functions....this is much easier than reading an otherwise boring manual.
Avoid used machines.....you can end up with a bucket of rust that may not work properly and will cost more to service than if you had purchased a new machine from your favorite discount store.
