I need hints on sewing and cutting jersy material?
I have material that is like jerseys that childrens t shirts are made of and I have never sewed with that kind and I was hoping someone could help me.
You've got three basic problems with jersey: 1) you have to get it cut accurately, and 2) it stretches easily, and tends to have poor recovery, and 3) it rolls up on the crossgrain when cut.
For the first problem, you'll need paper -- I use newsprint, but the back of cheap wrapping paper works, too -- to spread the fabric on in a relaxed state and on-grain. Pin the pattern to the on-grain fabric and the underlying paper, then cut all three layers at once... pattern, fabric, underlay. For more information:

That will help give you accurately cut shapes that won't twist when sewn.
2) Keep the fabric pinned to the paper until you're actually ready to sew the piece. Staystitch the neckline. Compare the neckline to the pattern to the pattern piece after stitching. You'll need to be very gentle and set the presser foot on your machine to a setting that will not cause stretching as you sew. Test on scraps, always.
3) Rolling. No real cure for that. Cussing helps some.
I usually start beginners on a more stable knit, like an interlock or Powerdry or a lacoste knit -- they're easier to learn on, imo.
