sewing slipcovers

sewing slipcovers
Is there a fast/easy way to make slipcovers?

For someone with little to no sewing skills? My friend has a couch and loveseat where the fabric is not very good but the furniture is still in good condition. I found this huge bolt of fabric really cheap so I thought we might be able to do something with it. The problem is that neither of us have those kind of sewing skills.

Both pieces are up against walls so that won't be an issue (the backs). We also have a lot of elastic rope in different sizes to help keep things in place if needed. Anyone have any ideas?

Making slipcovers is not easy especially if you don't have the sewing skills.
The only other thing I can think of is to try covering the furniture by sort of upholstering by wrapping them like a present by draping the fabric over where you sit starting from the floor over the armrest tucking into side of the cushion, over the cushions, tucking behind cushions, (tuck in 8 - 10 inches of fabric) to the other armrest, tuck in and drape over armrest to the floor and cut fabric across at floor level, making sure the fabric reaches the floor in front of the couch, remove and hem along the bottom. Put it back on the couch and fold the excess fabric at the armrests in a triangle, fold back and pin or upholstery tacks in a row, then wrap the sides below the armrests to the back and pin using common pins. (fold fabric under to hide raw edges)

Drape the remaining fabric over the backrest of the couch, pin along the back and tuck in behind the cushions (8 -10 inches) and wrap to the back and pin. Then untuck both from sides/behind the cushions and hand sew the two together and tuck back in.
(you can tack it every 3 - 4 inches instead sewing all the way across)
The best way to keep it in place is to put a long wood dowel in the crevice where you tucked the fabric behind the cushions and shorter ones on the sides.

Mammy's Kitchen

Mammy's Kitchen

$20

We started out as Christy's Collections in the fall of 2006. A grand idea for my mom, daughter and myself to open a home accessory, antique, and custom sewing store in downtown Bardstown. Not having enough to do in mom's words, we decided to open a cafe, antique, and sewing store combination. Attached to our building was a small room in the back, perfect for a kitchen! We bought a small grill, deep fryer, used and old stove, fridge and freezer from my home, then went to discount stores for dishes, pots, and pans. Soon after, we became so busy and overwhelmed that we had to bring sewing tables and any kind of chairs we could fine to accommodate all of our new customers. I don't know how we did it in that small room but people loved it and would eat in the kitchen while we cooked. We always kept both my grandmothers memories alive because they would've loved it so much. My grandmothers who we called "Mammy," were Lucille Hourigan, who had 17 children, whose specialties were sausage gracy and homemade biscuits. Mammy Clyde Gribbins, who had 15 children, favorites were pinto beans and fried chicken.I'm now a "Mammy" with my grandchildren and I carry on their traditions with a sense of great responsibility and pride.
