Sewing machine trouble

I'm using a brother XL-2600i and even when I thread it I still have trouble
ether the material with get caught under where the thread comes out of the bobbin holder thing or the stitching is loose. I only want to make a straight stick that isn't all loose.

I looked at your pictures and it looks like it could be incorrect thread tension.

From page 38, user manual: If the upper thread is not threaded correctly or the bobbin is not installed correctly, it may not be possible to set the correct thread tension. If the correct thread tension cannot be achieved, rethread the upper thread and insert the bobbin correctly.

It is Christmas time and you are broke

It is Christmas time and you are broke. You have tons of gifts to get for people you love. What can you do? In our world today where everything is easy to buy, and we have tons of things to choose from, we have all lost the spirit of giving. Instead of pouring our feeling and gratitude into our gifts, we are more engrossed to make sure how the recipient will view us based on our gifts.

I have to admit, I have fallen into this materialistic trap many times over. I was more concerned how my recipients view my gifts rather than showing my gratitude and appreciation for the person's friendship, companionship and relatioinship. Perhaps it is wisdom through time, but as one gets older, one begins to appreciate the intrinsic value , rather than the monetary value, of the gift.

I remember when my parents gave me presents and I would treasure those presents. They were not really expensive or high tech stuff. Some of them were just books, scrap books and small trinkets. Except for books, the other things they gave me were handmade mostly by my mother. I have to admit that some of the trinkets were grossly ugly, but still I treasure them till today. Whenever I pick one up, I have memories of the event. It was not the monetary value of the gift that was important but the memories and the effort my mother put into making them. Some of the gift are old and in poor condition now, but I would not part with them for anything.

There is one blanket that my mother sewed for me - a patch-work blanket made together from pieces of cloths. In one patch of the blanket, she sewed my name and the loveliest love note just for me. She gave that to me as a Christmas present. I used that blanket for years,  even right up to my college years. It is all torn out now and in an irreparable state. Some of the threads she used to sew the words with have come out, but I have refused to dispose of it. It carries very deep wonderful love feelings for me. I have now kept it in a plastic bag and in a safe place. Occasionally, I will bring out the blanket and carefully place it over me. And every time I do that, a warm unexplainable love feeling comes over me.

The reason I told my story is to share that gifts that have 'effort' has the most value in the long run. It may not be apparent at the time of giving but over time these gifts are the most treasured.

Handmade gifts are to me the best gifts. They  can be something simple. I remember one Christmas I made note holders for my loved ones. It was just a piece of wood with a wooden peg glued on the wood. I then put a double-sided sticker on the back of the wood. I then wrote unique love notes and phrases for each one of them specifically for the person I wanted to give it to. Everyone I gave that gift to has now stuck that note holder on their respective bedroom doors and let me tell you, it is used very often and everytime I see them, even though I was the giver, I have fond memories of making them.

Handmade gifts do not have 'love value' to the recipient but also to the giver. Handmade gifts can be cheap to make and do not cost a lot. The only thing you have to add is the 'effort' in making the gift. The more time you put into making them, the more 'love value' it has. It really does not matter if the gift turns out ugly looking. Let me prove to you one point. Have you ever received an ugly looking hand drawn picture of a butterfly by a three year old child? I am sure you have put it on the wall for everyone to see and even shown to it other people. You were proud and happy that your child drew the ugly looking butterfly for you. Perhaps an ugly looking butterfly will not do when you are an adult, but you get my point.
