How to adjust a non-stretch pattern for stretchy fabric?
I would like to sew myself a bikini top. I have great instructions on how to make a bra pattern that works and is possible to adjust to just about any type of bra.
But the fabric I have stretches about 50% to any direction. Would it make sense to decrease all measurements by 1/3? (not exactly, I need to find out how much the fabric is stretched when pulling both ways) Or should I only do so horizontally? This messes up the geometry and makes the further instructions useless. I get to such measurments that I could as well just sew the fabric flat to the wire, which won't obviously work.
So, should I decrease everything in the cup and make it stretch on the underwire, or rather try to figure out a way how to do so only horizontally? The fabric is very easy to stretch until it reaches it's limit.
I probably have a bit confused terminology. Every two piece swimsuit is called a "bikini" over here. I need a bra-like construction because I'm quite large in the top part.
No. Either buy a new pattern or new fabric. It might look good when done, but will look terrible after being stretched
