What do you consider to be therapeutic to you personally?

I like bike riding and boxing to loud pop music, karate/self defence, baking, planning things (like weddings and anniversaries), designing, sewing, picking thread and putting things together from an instruction book (tent, fold out couch bed, desk etc) ... so what destresses you?
Also vacations/holidays, christmas & new year period, sun or heat, and animals (particularly dogs) destress me

Music and the sound of water running can be very relaxing. I love to ride my bicycle and tend to do that daily or each night. On occasion late at night I like to stop and lay under the stars along the sidewalk near the bay and listen to the crickets and frogs in the long grass and creek leading into the bay. When the moon is full or just very bright it's the best time because the ripples on the water are very well lit and soothing to look at. {I missed out last night!} Besides that, I drink green tea- not just drink it, I play in it! I use 2 spoons to squeeze the bags to drain each bit of flavor into my cup. Just that process alone can be relaxing. Lately, I add ice... Also I read. Making sure I get out daily for a walk in the fresh air is also therapeutic. Just to get to the rustle and bustle of a different environment as I sit and play cards... I used to sew a lot. Recently I purchased material to make some curtains so I suppose I'll be back at it.. The hum drum steady beat of a sewing machine can be nice and relaxing although I'll have to admit that it does leave me in stitches... I also like to lounge on my bed while listening to the music or reading or just while catching the air from my fan after a bikeride. After the bikeride while pouring sweat is also relaxing-- feeling all of that energy drain out of you. {in puddles- the white salt stains after is the downfall- EW!} .. Writing is my medium. Since way back in my pre-teens I would sometimes write about things that bothered me, or even just nice things. I may even write a letter to someone who bothered me, although not actually giving them the note. I would throw it away. Some things I kept. It's a great way to sort thoughts too. To get out the theory and analogies of situations... the realistic view and dramatical sense. A way of bridging thoughts. Also animals are very therapeutic. I love animals. Having a cat can be destressing because you can pet it, cuddle with it and talk as if he's listening. (mine does- he talks back!)

*I've not really been away on a vacation since I was about age 11. My ideal getaway would be to the U.K. Zoos and amusement parks are great fun though. I've been to those a few times .
- I love picnics! I suppose you could saying having dreams is therapeutic. It does the soul wonders just to imagine..
Holidays- Coloring food & getting many things that suit the theme makes it fun. Therefore I like Valentines {red & pink colors}, St. Patricks {green colors} and Easter (rainbow pastel colors} because of the fun in making things festive.
I also like Hallowe'en. Christmas isn't my favorite. Although it is fun if we make decorations together & listen to christmas music. The lights and display can be therapeutic. I'm not into gifts and feel that aspect of christmas can make many feel drained or left out.

Home Makeovers Are Cost Effective

Many people are attracted to home makeovers suggestions made by friends and relatives because they are cost effective methods for hanging the home interior or exterior surfaces without incurring great expense. It makes more sense to a homeowner to make minor changes to one or two rooms in a home rather than incur the cost of major changes such as wall replacements, room additions or installing new shingling on the exterior of the home.

To make home makeovers more cost effective, the homeowner might choose to relocate various pieces of furniture to other rooms in the home. This would alleviate the cost of buying new desks if an old one in the back office can be sanded down and resurfaced with a shiny new coat of lacquer that would give the furniture a brand new look at very little expense. The wooden frames of a bunk bed set could be revitalized and used as wall shelving if the homeowner was talented with a router.

A homeowner could spruce up the yard just by finding other uses for leftover brick that have been in the yard since the house was built. The bricks could be used to frame an oval porch that was created when the homeowner decided to use the cement in the corner of the garage which was leftover from the driveway currently in use which was built many years before. Other items that could prove very useful when the homeowner entertains outside. A bricked in fireplace could serve two purposes by warming guests in the winter and cooking meals during the summer that make staying at home more enjoyable than traveling away on vacation.

Attics are great places to explore when searching for items to use for a home makeover. Antique furniture could be taken to a dealer and auctioned off for a very good price. That money could be used to buy items that the family could enjoy everyday of the year, such as a whirlpool spa. That luxurious item would definitely look great on the new polished deck on the porch that was recently renovated with non-skid surfaces that were intentionally placed to keep the family safe.

To make home makeover changes last, the homeowner might institute some new rules for people that live in various spaces. To maintain the pristine finish on a newly painted wall, the homeowner might outlaw the use of any nails or prohibit any picture frames from being placed on the wall. This cost effective method for preserving a home makeover will be used when the homeowner plans to list the home on the real estate market and does not want to repaint the home or patch any existing holes put in the wall after the space has been freshly painted.

Fresh wall designs can be achieved with the application of painter's tape and some careful shading. The headboard for an old bedroom set can be reestablished as a comfortable resting place for the head with the aid of some foam cushions and a bit of sewing on fabrics bought on sale. With the addition of a few sports posters and a basketball hoop on the door, the children might be tempted to throw a hoop shot and keep the floor free of dirty clothes clutter. To complete the effect, the parents might consider dyeing scatter rugs that were found in the attic with colors that project the team colors of the child's favorite basketball team.
