My Sewing Machine won't thread?
I have a Janome mini heavy duty sewing machine. When I thread the machine I thread it correctly. But then the instructions say to rotate the handwheel once, and that should cause the bobbin thread to come up through a small slot under the needle. But when I turn it the bobbin thread doesn't come up. So when I'm sewing, it won't stitch up the fabric the needle just runs through it. It just started doing this, the machine is still fairly new. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.
My first guess is the needle is in backwards; my second is that you're not hanging on to the end of the top thread as you're lowering the needle.
I did a tutorial for someone else using my Viking... you should be able to follow it for your Janome -- this step is all much of a muchness among machines. I took off the presser foot to give better visibility. Black thread in the top, neon green in the bobbin.

When you turn the handwheel, turn it in the direction that would make the fabric feed from front to back of the machine.

Biggest cause of can't pick up the bobbin thread, skipped stitches or lousy stitching is, in my experience, needle in backwards or bent or dull needle problems. When you're troubleshooting stitching and you've been at it so long that you want to swear, try a brand new size 80/12 sharp needle in the machine, turned right way around (flat side to the back on yours), and a fold of woven fabric under the presser foot. If that works, you know that there's nothing much wrong with the machine -- it's probably bad needle, dirty machine or user error.
