different hand sewing stitches

Singer SewQuick, thread keeps breaking?

I recently purchased a Singer SewQuick handheld sewing machine figuring it would make simple stitches faster and better than by hand.

Well, it does, when it isn't breaking the thread! For some reason I can only go a couple of inches at a time before the thread breaks and comes out of the needle. It is very fustrating. I have tried playing with the tension, tried different threads (Walmart cheap stuff and proper sewing thread, but it is the same issue.

I really don't want to have to sew this project (neck warmer) by hand!

I am using Polarfleece style fabric, if that makes a difference.

My husband bought one of those things for himself but trust me , if you want to hang on to your sanity, either take it back or buy a real sewing machine. I have been sewing fo 50 years and I came very near to throwing that thing against a wall.
