Problem with my singer sewing machine tension.?
I have a singer drop in bobbin machine, and have no idea how to fix the tension on the bobbin. The loose loops are coming up at the top, and i know it's a problem with the bottom tension as the machine will onyl work on tension 0-1 without dropping lots of stitches. It's quite annoying as it's my better machine and i don't want to have to use my other one which is noisy and more basic.
So... how do i sort out the bottom tension? Do i remove the plates. Help! Can't see mto find anything online. MY model is a 5430C supposedly (according to a label on the machine - it's been a good 3 years and i've lost the leaflet)
Just for grins, before you do anything else, put in a new needle and clean the machine (brush and vacuum, not compressed air) and oil per the manual. Rethread from scratch.
Loose loops on top of the machine do tend to indicate loose bottom tension, but they may also indicate extremely high top tension, or a mismatch between needle and thread. From a distance, I'm guessing you've got something caught in the bobbin case's tension, probably lint or a bit of thread, or you're not actually getting the thread into the tension:

According to the Singer website, you can also use the 5417 manual for the 5430.
