How do you sew a cape with no hood?
I want to know how to sew a cape with no hood that is made out of satin fabric. I also want it to tie in the front, preferrably with the corners of the cape. Please include a link or instructions with materials. Thanks!
First, you'll need to decide how you want your cape to hang... circular, rectangular and opera capes all hang differently on the body. Rectangular are the easiest to make, bulkiest at the neck and, imho, hang the worst. The standard "Jedi knight" sort of cloak is a circular.
Satin is a pain to sew... it waterspots, it shows every stitch you've had to rip out, it crawls when you're trying to sew it, etc. And it's not fun to cut (pin it to paper and cut satin and paper together to get an accurate shape.) There are a lot of shiny fabrics around that are easier to work with, including many knits that don't need hems at all, should you be a beginner. To leave off a hood, simply bind the neckline edge.
