I want to create and sew a costume. How do I get started?
I am a beginner sewer (I have taken one sewing class at a local fabric store and own a sewing machine) interested in creating a costume for a video game convention at the end of August. http://images.wikia.com/assassinscreed/images/e/ef/Char_courtesan.png
I have never created clothing without a pattern before. I know this is ambitious but I'm up to the challenge. Where do I start? Will I need to buy and modify a pattern or do I create one? I would love some guidelines and advice before proceeding, especially related to this particular costume. Thank you!
Definitely buy and modify a pattern. Make a mock up in cheaper fabric with similar texture to work out the kinks before cutting the actual costume fabrics. If you can have some help from someone with more experience for fitting that will be good, as it is difficult to fit behind your own back. Good luck and have fun!
