Craft people? Help please!?

I have this hobby where i make potholders like religiously. i have about 80 handmade potholders that i made over the past 5 years, and ive decided that instead of having them sit around collecting dust, im going to sew them into a quilt! the only problem is im not sure how to sew them together, should i use yarn or thread or something else?
the only problem with thread is that i dont think it will be strong enough...the potholders are thick.
any ideas as to how to sew them?

Been there, done that, used *carpet thread*. I made mine into a throw rug.
