How To Create Your Own Personal Leather Pillows
Leather pillows could be an excellent way to accent leather furniture or add old world charm to a bedroom. Nevertheless, with even faux leather pillows priced at twenty dollars or a lot more, you may find these decorative pillows more than your budget can handle. A pillow is a single from the easiest craft projects obtainable so why not make your own? You will save money and be able to get a pillow that matches your specifications exactly, instead of being limited to the manufacturers' offerings.
If you prefer a softer, velvety texture, choose suede, chamois or Nubuck. When choose dye colors, make certain you are searching at finished samples rather than the color in the bottle. They are frequently distinctly different shades.
Once dry, buff with a clean cloth. Finish by applying a leather conditioner or preservative.
Determine the size and shape you want your cushion to be. Square pillows are generally utilized to accent furniture. Large square pillows are made for use for the floor. Rectangular, bolster and round pillows are typically found within the bedroom.
Cushion types are pre-shaped and only need to be covered with the fabric. They tend to hold their form well. Batting permits you more versatility with shapes, but do not hold their form over time as well as cushion types do.
If doing a square or rectangular pillow, cut the leather into two pieces that are equal in size and shape. You want the leather pieces to be two inches longer and wider than you want your pillow to be. This is to permit for the seams when you sew the pillow.
You should be searching at the back side of the leather. Start at a single corner and sew down the side, across the bottom and back up the opposite side. If you are using cushion types, leave the best part open. In case you are utilizing batting, sew two-thirds from the way across the top.
Open fabric edges away from seams and use an iron on low heat to flatten them. Turn cushion right side out. Insert pillow form or batting and sew best edge closed.
They should be dusted on a weekly basis. A lightly dampened cloth, ideally microfiber, could be utilized to wipe them down as soon as or twice a month. Leather cleaner ought to be utilized three to four times a year and conditioner or preservatives every six to nine months.

Any advice ?.......my bed sheets don't fit over the corners?
I bought my daughter a new mattress set. It seems to be deeper than the old one and has a slight pillow top.
My delema now is that all the fitted sheets do not fit the mattress. They do not stay fit over the corners. When one corner is done, the other corner pops off.
Those plastic sliders to hold the sheet onto the mattress ribbing just pop off.
And I'm not sure if those elastic strips with clamps will do the trick.
This wouldn't be that big of an issue except I must have about 8 sheet sets (for 3 daughters) in different Disney themes.
So any suggestions to selvage them would be helpful.
I do sew, so any detailed sewing tips would also be appreciated.
Thank you !
Well...your new fitted sheets will be the 'deep' pocket style.. however...I sewed a 'strip' of material across the corners about 10-12 inches from the corner to form a triangle. This strap holds the corner of the sheet on. Since no mattresses are the same in thickness, and after you sew the 1 to1 1/2 inch wide strap to one edge, put the old sheet on one corner of the mattress & figure how long the piece needs to be. Mine needed to be about 1 1/2 inches longer then the distance across the corner.
