Thread for machine sewing Coolaroo fabric?
What kind of thread is good for machine sewing Coolaroo fabric? I have a basic sewing machine and the fabric seems lightweight enough. My first project is a cat bed, and then maybe some shades. I have some 'invisible' thread that I think is nylon for quilting 'in the ditch' and some heavy duty cotton covered polyester I have used for denim bags. Would either of these work?
If the nylon thread is monofilament, I wouldn't use it... it's nasty stuff to work with. Both threads you mention will sunrot badly from UV, so I would not use either for outdoor projects, though the poly/cotton may work if your machine will accept it. Remember, you need to match needle size and thread diameter or you get all sorts of strange stitching.
