Redecorating my room! how to decorate a cornice...?

i need something to tie both of the colors together and i want to decorate my window cornice with different patterned/colored ribbons. or something like that. i just want the variety of colors on there in stripes basically, but i don't know how to decorate a valance like that.
HELPP
i'm not great with arts and crafts but my dad can sew. he's not a pro though. it has to look well done and NOT homemade. pleease help

you can do nifty things with padding and fabric and a few ribbons, some glue, tacks, velcro, staples,e tc......and if you want a curvy one or want to change to a straight one, some foam board tacked to the existing cornice before the padding really works good!....
