Useful Tips and Techniques for Sewing
One of the most wonderful activities and pastimes since time immemorial is sewing. Aside from being beneficial because it enables a person to wear his or her own clothes and use his or her creations, sewing also encourages creativity and resourcefulness through the different patterns, materials, and techniques that can be used.
Before, sewing especially sewing by hand is only associated with women. But today, with all the advances and conveniences modern technology has brought, this activity has evolved not only as a pastime but also as a source of income for both men and women.
Romina Abrigo Editor of the "Sewing Machine Reviews" website -- http://www.SewingMachineReviews.me -- pointed out;
"…If you're just get started on sewing, one of the most important things that you should pay attention to is the various sewing techniques needed for successful outcomes. These sewing techniques are very important to ensure that you don't waste time, effort, and materials in current and future sewing projects you have in mind…" Added Romina Abrigo
Aside from learning the different sewing techniques, you must also take notes of the useful tips that you have discovered and encountered so you will use them the next time you will be facing another project.
Learning important sewing tips and techniques
Sewing techniques are crucial in successful needlework because they define the overall appearance and endurance of the item. The most basic sewing technique that a neophyte sewer must learn is marking. This is very important because it will serve as your guide before you cut the fabric. Marking is done on the fabric using tailor's chalk once all the measurements are taken. When marking, always remember that the edges are marked properly so it won't be erased once the fabric is flipped or tossed.
Next important sewing technique is cutting. This should be done using a sharp pair of scissors to ensure that there will be no frills hanging once the fabric has been cut. In cutting, always make sure that the fabric isn't stretched and isn't pinned to avoid miscalculations in the measurement. It is best to put weights on the fabric when cutting it to ensure that you get the measurements marked correctly.
"…After marking and cutting, the sewing proper comes next. Whether you will be sewing by hand or by machine, always make sure that you use new and sharp needles. This is very important because it ensures that you will have hassle free sewing. Most sewers recommend sharp and violet-band needles with sizes 10 to 12 for sewing machines and sergers are because it makes fabric feeding smoother and faster compared to others…" Added Romina Abrigo

serger vs sewing machine?
I wanted to purchase a sewing machine, but I also heard about a serger. I know what a serger does, but I was wondering is it worth buying rather than getting a regular sewing machine? Does a serger have the same functions as a sewing machine?
The two are completely different.
Buy the sewing machine with an overcast foot and you can achieve the same effect as when using a serger.
The serger overcasts as it stitches. It can be set to trim or you can adjust or disable the knife (cutting feature) so the fabric is not trimed as the edge of the fabric is serged.
You can construct seams with a serger, but there is more need for the sewing machine than a serger when constructing garments, home dec, etc.
