during 3rd trimester the dr. starts to measure the belly but how do they measure exactly and where?

I was told an old wives tale that if you measure with a measing tape (the sewing flimsy type) that you can match up how many weeks or months you are. But not sure which side to use the centimeters or the inches? Is this supposivly acurrate how did someone come about this wives tale?

Its not really a wives tale persay....It is the measurement of your uterus in centimeters. Almost all docs do it. It can be within 2-3 cm or weeks if your actual due date. and depends on the person measuring. They measure from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus and can vary 1cm or so each time you are measured
